Overview & Reviews
The new-for-'99 Grand Cherokee contains only 127 carryover parts from the previous model, and gets a new powertrain, rear suspension, braking and steering systems, 4WD system, interior and exterior styling.
- Still looks like a Jeep. Better engine performance and handling. Safety.

1999 Jeep - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JonP - December 22 - 10:00 amWe have had very few problems. Did do the brakes twice but other then that Jeep has been a great vehichle. My wife uses it for around town and with kids. Change oil & general maintenance every 3000 miles. I think this is important and explains lack of problems. I would buy another one.

Love My Limited - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By shaneyusa - November 28 - 10:00 amPurchased used with under 12,000 miles. Have had some small annoying problems, but nothing that would make me buy something different. Nimble sports car like handling for a SUV. Power when you need it. Great looks. When it gets too many miles I will definately look at buying a new version of this vehicle.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 6 cylinder - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Matt - October 10 - 2:03 pmBought the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4 1/2 years ago, just traded in with 206000 miles. Overall, I was pleased with the Jeeps performance. The inline 6 cylinder, 4.0 liter engine is indestructible. Experienced slipping with the transmission, but such problems are to be expected with high mileage vehicles.

Never Again - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jim - October 4 - 10:13 amI bought this Jeep to downsize from a Chevy Suburban, not to go lower quality. Brake rotors replace within 6 months. Differentials are LOUD all the time. Heating and Air selector sometimes switches to different zones, sometimes doesnt. Three water pump replacements in 2 years. Warning light came on yesterday "Low Coolant" - so this is never going to end. The transmission hesitates from 2nd to 3rd gear, I dont even want to talk about the trouble of going to 4WD and back. I have to make sure I have a clear area before switching 4WD/2WD. However, I like the looks, I love the interior driving position and center console. The engine is still strong and torquey.

2001 Gran Cherokee Laredo a class act - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By wwwallywww - September 27 - 10:00 amWhat I expect after owning a 93 Gran Cherokee Laredo. Its still the best styled of all the SUVs out there. No real complaints about the interior. The ride is a huge improvement over the 1993. AC Compressor froze with about 16,000 miles on the car, dealer replaced under warrenty with no problem. 4.0 litre 6.

Jwaugaman review - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jwaugaman - September 27 - 10:00 amI have put 85,000 miles on it in 3 and a half years and not had any major problems. It has excellent power (V8) and not unreasonable gas mileage.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4 - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By AJ - February 11 - 11:16 amBought this 4X4 Jeep in 2005 with 55,000 miles. Loved it when I bought it but started having problems about 6 months later. Had to replace output speed sensor, water pump, security sensor, door lock actuators, door checks, cvt boots, radiator sensor all under 75,000 miles. Gas mileage is terrible for a 6 cylinder averaging about 13 mpg. AC is ice cold and heat works very well and quick. Loved the outside temperature gauge with compass, average mpg, and fuel range. Very comfortable and roomy and fun to drive. Just sold it with 85,000 miles. Good fun vehicle if you have a warranty and dont have to worry about these problems.

Great vehicle, but high maintenance - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Lovemyjeep-o - January 21 - 2:00 amI special ordered this SUV in 1999. It is so comfortable and wonderful to drive. Fortunately, however, I purchased an extended warranty in 2002. There have been air conditioning problems. The starter went out at 42,000 miles. Occasionally, there is a strange noise from the right rear when cornering. There have been other minor problems. The rear end replacement issue was brought up with my Jeep. The dealer had replaced some others but apparently had done so unnecessarily. Bottom line: yes it is worth the aggravation and yes I would buy it again.
